Chai + Rye: A Whiskey Tea Toddy

Chai + Rye

We may not be able to celebrate the holidays in person this year, but we can keep cozy and carry on, so that's what we're doing.

For us, that looks like wrapping up like Danish babies napping peacefully in the snow, lighting a bonfire, and making merriment with festive, warming elixirs. This one is for adults (here’s our Kid-friendly tea steamer).

Chai + Rye Recipe (makes 2 servings)
Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups of water

  • 3 Tbs Firelight Chai tea — substitute Chai Divine for a caffeine-free option

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (1/8 cup/serving) — or your favorite alternative milk

  • 1 tsp honey

  • 2 Tbs Rye Whiskey (1 Tbs/serving) — I used Wild Turkey— but I’m not a whiskey connoisseur… choose your favorite rye whiskey

  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan, bring water to a boil

  • Add loose leaf tea, simmer 3 minutes

  • Turn heat off and allow tea to steep for 10 minutes

  • Strain tea leaves

  • Add honey

  • In a separate bowl, whisk cream briskly until frothy

  • Combine tea, whiskey and cream in mugs and serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top

Keep cozy and carry on!
