Lavender Fog Latte
London Fog meets Honey Lavender Latte
Ingredients:
1 cup hot water
1 Tbs Mizz Grey tea
1/2 cup of your favorite milk or milk alternative
1 tsp honey
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
Steep tea in hot water (I do 195 degrees for 5 minutes so the tea flavor comes through the milk).
While the tea is steeping, heat milk in a saucepan over medium-low, until steaming. (Or use a milk frother! I don't have one, waugh waugh.)
Strain the tea leaves
Add vanilla extract and honey to tea
Whisk milk to a froth, pour into tea, and give a quick stir to combine
Serve with a sprinkle of...lavender flower, cinnamon, or orange zest!

“Can I make you a cup of tea?”
These were always some of Dad’s first words to me during my teens and early 20s when I visited him on the weekends.
I always said yes, and we chatted as he boiled the water. I picked out Earl Grey from the cupboard, and he poured hot water into my favorite mug with a pear on it. After pulling the infuser, he swirled the dipper through the honey, scooped a huge dollop into my tea, and finished it with a generous splash of cream. Sweet and creamy tea — no wonder Teenage Alexa loved it!
With the past year as an exception, it’s continued into my adulthood and never fails to make me feel taken care of. Now I remember our tea ritual so fondly, even though as a teenager I took his show of care for granted.
The small act of service is especially meaningful at this time in my life when I’m knee deep in diapers and stuffed animals and bath time. Even an act so small makes me feel cared for, and the weight of responsibility is lifted for a moment. It’s nice to feel taken care of.
In the midst of Covid, I deeply appreciate those tiny moments. I can’t wait to have a cup of tea with my Dad again.
I recently discovered that what Dad made for me was close to a London Fog tea latte (black tea, steamed milk, vanilla syrup, and honey). So I've been experimenting.
I'm calling it a Lavender Fog — London Fog meets Honey Lavender Latte.
Cheers,
Alexa
